CUSTODIAL WORKER

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Employees in this class perform manual duties involved in building cleaning and the operation of cleaning equipment. The work involves the thorough execution of tasks which follow a well-established routine under general supervision.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Sweeps, mops, washes floors and hallways, cleans windows; Dusts furniture and window sills; Cleans restrooms, showers, locker rooms and replenishes supplies; Strips and waxes floors; Vacuum and shampoos rugs; Assists with grounds keeping activities, such as mowing and snow removal; Changes oxygen tanks and removes HVAC units; Performs minor maintenance activities such as repairs to locks, replaces light bulbs, minor painting; Clean cafeterias, lunch, dining and isolation rooms; Washes walls, lockers, doors and showcases; Collects and disposes of trash (including infectious waste); Unloads and stores supplies, moves furniture and equipment; Makes minor repairs to furniture and fixtures, helps with more difficult repair work; Performs other assigned tasks.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to read and write; thoroughness; cleanliness; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None is required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT: Possession of a valid New York State motor vehicle operator's license.
