Monticello Central School District is seeking Bus Drivers, Bus Monitors, Substitute Bus Drivers, and Substitute Bus Monitors

The Monticello Central School District is in Sullivan County, NY, which is centrally located between New York City, Albany and the Pocono Mountain region.  This provides a rare combination to live in a rural setting and still be close to major metropolitan areas for recreation and work.  Monticello is the largest of the seven county school districts with a multicultural enrollment of approximately 2700 students.

School Bus Mechanic26-27(30)

DESCRIPTION

This position involves responsibility for the efficient and skillful performance of a variety of duties in connection with the maintenance, repair, and operation of a transportation system of a school district.    

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Three years (3) of experience in performing maintenance and repair of buses or other equipment used in the transportation of passengers. Candidates must provide adequate information about their experience to demonstrate their knowledge and ability to perform standard automotive maintenance and repair tasks.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Good knowledge of standard automotive equipment repair methods and of the terminology and tools of the trade.
  2. Good knowledge of driving safety practices, traffic laws, and regulations.
  3. Demonstrated ability to make difficult repairs to automotive and other mechanical equipment.
  4. Ability to operate various motor vehicles under difficult driving and road conditions.
  5. Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
  6. Mechanical aptitude.
  7. Good motor and hand and eye coordination.
  8. Dependability.
  9. Physical conditions commensurate with the demands of the position.

Head School Bus Mechanic26-27(29)

DISCRIPTION: This position involves performance of diverse duties in connection with the transportation operation in a school district. Duties will include performance of automotive mechanical and maintenance tasks, operation of a school bus, and supervision of other persons who operate buses and perform mechanical tasks. Work is performed under general direction with wide leeway for accomplishing job objectives.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: The typical work activities listed below, while providing representative examples of the variety of work assignments in the title, do not describe any individual position. Incumbents in this title may perform some or all of the following, as well as other related activities not described. Operates a school bus on a regular schedule or on special occasions; Checks the operating condition of the bus before starting on a trip; Informs passengers about safety precautions; Maintains orderly conduct on bus; Performs skilled mechanical repairs on school buses and other school district vehicles; Prepares and maintains maps of routes and pick-up points; Plans and supervises the work of other bus drivers and mechanics.
